PROLINER®

Accurate and quick measurement of boat covers

A boat cover or sprayhood has a foldable stainless steel or aluminum tube frame over which canvas is stretched. This boot cover offers shelter from wind, splashing water while sailing and rain.

Besides making new boat covers, existing boat covers need to be replaced regularly because of degradation of natural resources such as rain, sun and sea water. The Prodim measuring team frequently gets the order to measure boat covers and has become very experienced through the years.

The perfect (canvas) boat cover must be tightly stretched to the tube frame and made in the line of the boat. For these specific measurements the Prodim measurement team measures wherever the boat is located, in the garage, on the water, in windy ports or ashore.

Prodim does this through the Proliner with the Proliner principle:
measuring with a wire. The Proliner is the best digital measuring device to finish these kind of jobs. The Proliner is positioned at a central place on the boat from where it can be measured easily.

The tube frame, consisting of various aluminum tubes, is measured very accurate and easy by only measuring a few points per tube. Then the coaming is measured. This is necessary to accurately determine the connection points which fixes the boat cover to the deck.

A total measurement can be done in a short time and after the measurement directly available as .dxf file. Through a software solution the 3D measurement is flattened to 2D. By flattening the seams and any windows can also be determined. Now the drawing is ready to send directly to a plotter or CNC machine for production of the canvas boat cover.

The principle of 3D measurement and convert it into a flattened 2D drawing for further processing is, except for boat covers, used for upholstery, covers and tent sails.
